We bid a fiery welcome to the Chinese New Year for 2026. This Chinese New Year begins Tuesday February 17th on the Aquarian New Moon – as the second New Moon after the northern Winter Solstice is the beginning of the traditional Chinese lunar calendar with the Sun and Moon in Aquarius. This New Year begins another new Zodiac animal cycle – it's the hand over from the sliding Serpent Snake to the year of the galloping, exciting and adrenal triggering Fire Horse. You have to act fast in a Horse year. If you are not 100 percent secure about a decision, then don’t do it. Events move so quickly in a Horse year that you don’t want to head off fence-leaping and galloping in the wrong direction. This New Moon on the 17th is also a Solar Eclipse and an Annular one which means there is a ring of fire around the eclipsed Sun – this is very significant for a triple Fire year. Astrology of the day shows Uranus the rebel, is directly opposite the New Moon position. It means we have a year of intensity where anything goes with shifts in political power structures and the intensity of enthusiasm for the new, for action and for changes in the way we operate. It can also bring the best new changes for good, and it can bring excesses of attempts to control. The Horse, the Chinese say, is one of the greatest animals with the life force. In Chinese astrology, a Horse year is considered a fortunate year that brings luck and many good results. They consider the Horse magical with its supernatural powers – its heroic, strong, and can even fly! The Horse is also the symbol of the spirit of corn and is a symbol or regeneration. Indians had once dominated. And there is the US Cavalry who's charge accompanied by bugle calls is famous in movie westerns.

Those born in the Horse year are considered intelligent and philosophical people who give out a calm and peaceful demeanour and love stability. WHAT Is The HORSE YEAR ALL ABOUT?
The Chinese year is always made up of two parts, the Chinese animal sign and the year element. This Year of the Horse is symbolised by two elements – Yang Fire over Yang Fire. So, its a Fire year on the Heavenly Stem with Fire as the Earthly branch. According to the Chinese cycle of birth and destruction governing the interrelationship between the Five Elements, if the two elements are in the destructive cycle and have a conquering relationship, then the year will experience more conflict and less harmony. If the two elements are in the support or mothering cycle them there is more harmony in the way the year proceeds. However, despite such a supportive relationship of pure Fire, we cannot be too optimistic about peace and harmony.
The 2026 Yang Fire Element represents the powerful Sun and the Sun symbolises the quality of popularity, straight forwardness, but with a quick temper and impulsiveness. Hence there will be impulsive actions without careful consideration and planning, leading to open conflicts, hostilities, and quarrels in international relationships likely bringing war and disharmony, political turbulence, even coups d'etat, anti-government activities and growing Freedom movements world wide. Expect very hot summers/ it may bring large fire disasters and possiblynuclear meltdowns.
The HISTORY of the YEAR
The Chinese calendar going in 60 year cycles means 60 years ago in 1966, the world experienced the same Yang Fire Horse year as 2026. 1966 was the peak year of entertainment and new pop culture with rock music bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Supremes, The Beach Boys and more. Looking back to 1966, there were many air and sea disasters, an All Nippon Airways plane plunged into Tokyo Bay killing 133 people. In March a Canadian airlines plane crashed at Tokyo airport killing 64. And a BOAC flight crashed at Mount Fuji killing 124. In June two US war planes collided in mid-air. In July a US plane disappeared over Cuba and that’s only a few examples
Political Moves: An International Day of Protest held in 1966 against the Vietnam War. The Chinese Red Guard became active with huge demonstrations against ‘Western’ Influences. 2,000 Madrid University students battled with Spanish Police. A B52 bomber crashed on the Spanish coast jettisoning 4 hydrogen bombs, 1 in the ocean and 3 on land. The ocean one was recovered three months later. Israeli and Jordanian forces fought the battle of Hebron. Pres. DeGaulle visited the USSR and they demanded removal of NATO forces from France.
It will also bring turbulent weather disasters and natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions or earthquakes. Looking back in 1966, in March there was a 6.9M earthquake in the city Xingtai in China, leaving 8,000 dead and 38,000 injured. In April there was 5.1 M Tashkent earthquake in the USSR killing 200 people.
The Positive Events:
Indirah Ghandi, the daughter of Pandit Neru became Prime Minister of India. Pope Paul VI visited the Soviet Union to meet the Foreign Minster Mr Gromyko. The Soviet Unions craft Luna 9 made a successful landing on the Moon. The US spacecraft Surveyor 1 made a successful landing and sent back over 11,000 images of the Moon’s surface. Astronaut Edwin Aldrin took the longest space walk yet at 129 minutes from Gemini 12. A US surgical team implanted plastic arteries leading to an artificial heart which was successful and the woman recovered and left hospital 10 days later. Australia successfully introduced Decimal Currency in October 1966. The first ever Formula One Grand Prix was held and won by Farina (who was a Fire Horse). Dawn Fraser made her big wins in 1966 Olympics. Generation X began to be born in 1966 and are the first exposed to the fullness of digital technology.
WHAT ARE The HEALTH ISSUES FOR 2026?
In the Five Elements system, Fire is the element of heart and blood circulation. It is also a symbol of Yang energy in our body. Yang Fire people are active, energetic, forceful and sporty. Fire also affects emotions and the brain, hence Yang Fire people are often emotional and warm hearted but quick temper and impulsive. Imbalance of Fire will cause heart and blood circulation and health problems related to inflammation. As Fire is strong and Water is lacking this year there are also problems related to the kidneys and the immune system. Fire destroys the Metal element which is the lungs, our breathing organ and the skin, so there will also be illnesses in that area. Influenza for example. Yang Fire symbolises the shoulder so a Yang Fire year may also cause shoulder pain for people who have excessive Fire elements in their Four Pillars of Destiny (the Chinese Astrology chart). Relating to your internal organs, Yang Fire represents the small intestines and gives out a happy mood. Hence there is a strong tendency for confidence this year and for positive optimism.
WHAT WAY For The ECONOMY This YEAR?
With a double Fire year confidence will be the driving force behind the stock market and the economy. The strong Yang fire of 2026 will bring a strong economic recovery and optimism in investment and the stock market. The stock market is likely to rise high from the month of February to July. There will be a slight slow down during the Autumn and Winter months (Northern Hemisphere) between August and January, but optimism remains strong as the following year, 2027 continues to be a Fire Element year again. It seems the trade war between the USA and China will come up with a positive resolution and international trade will be active and profitable again in 2026.

This year marks a strong turning point for progress on our planet towards a genuine force for changing the way the human race treats the Earth itself and its natural companions: animals, birds, insects, trees, plants, herbs, flowers, rocks, water and landscapes – indeed all life here including humans. The combination of double Fire with the Nine Fire Cycle we are now in means the enthusiasm to change is here reinforced by the enthusiasm and commitment of Fire energy which has the essence of the heart of us all and the blood in our veins to do it. THE RAT (Water): (1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020). This year you’ll find that the Horse is opposite your sign so you have to tread carefully each month. Be ready to step out of your comfort zone and take advantage of things offered to you as some events may not go the way you want. You may find the cosmic forces sometimes turn against you, but then do it slowly. Don’t focus on wealth or expenditure this year – put away for the coming year. Relationships take a tumble at times, so you always need to look at defusing situations. Those born in the Dog or Sheep year can help you out.
THE OX (Earth): (1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021). A year to find the pressure is off as the the Snake has moved on. The opportunities that come this year you need to look at carefully as the Horse can be tricky for you. What you learned last year can now put you in good stead for 2026. THE TIGER (Wood): (1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022). This year you will find its going to be more fortunate as you benefit from the Horse. As I said – ‘those of the Tiger sign will find it more of a harmonious year for themselves’. You receive kudos from unexpected places as you go about the year. Avoid any ideas of gambling on events to make something out of it, not the best year for punting. Issues around your property may surface so keep yourself covered. Relationships can be fleeting but enjoy.
THE RABBIT (Wood): (1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011, 2023). Last year you didn’t quite get the results you wanted so this year is going to bring a better set of changes. Look for good opportunities to come your way this year including issues of assets. Sometimes there may be legal issues to navigate, but they will be the results of miscommunications. Sort them carefully. There can be quite a social calendar ahead for you if you have the energy to take advantage.
THE DRAGON (Earth): (1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024). The Horse can be a more active year for you since the past one has been a slower period. You can move forward now knowing you will be in line for recognition. You may have felt isolation in the past year but this year is moving faster. There may be some setbacks, and maybe a loss of some importance, but the year will bring good relief for you and some gains. Look forwards in it.
THE SNAKE (Fire): (1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, 2025). Since your year has moved on there is still energy for you to make good on what happened in 2025. There are legal issues ahead to sort and there are achievement issues also to sort. Somebody you know will step forward for you to help out and sort things. You have had health issues that you felt last year that you now can deal with thoroughly. Now you have to pay attention to yourself. Rest and recreation programs ought now be on your agenda.
THE HORSE (Fire): (1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014, 2026). Your year is here. You can do well in this year if you watch the issues of leadership and take your proper place in that. Your talents will be more likely recognised now. Don’t over commit to anything but look at your impatience levels to get things done. THE SHEEP/GOAT (Earth): (1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015). Last year wasn’t what you thought, but now as a beneficiary to the Horse year you can change that. Now is the time to shift from a year of criticism you may have got or of self-doubts and let go of those past things. You will experience some prep-up of shining light which can get you ready for 2027 when it’s your year. Take advantage of what is offered now. Wealth is good and relationships shine for you.
THE MONKEY (Metal): (1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016). That Snake year just gone was not your favourite. So now this year is more favourable for you and you can develop your philosophical outlook and some great opportunities arrive for your mind power. Your career and work world will open in a way that can involve relocation for you. This will likely involve travel for you and perhaps it will be essential. You have some big decisions now and advice is to check all the legal details. Social opportunities show up for you so use them well. Some people your senior may help you out.
THE ROOSTER (Metal): (1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017). This year you need to look at a review of your lifes progress and of your goals up to now. Look at life goals and see what needs changes. You will encounter those who will help you with advice on wealth and directions. Your spiritual direction becomes far more important in 2026, and you may also encounter a female advisor who will help on all fronts. Watch out for any tricks played on yourself. THE PIG (Water): (1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019). The past Snake year has been difficult and tricky for Pigs, but the Horse year now sets out to restore the balance.
